HI, I'M OLLIE.
Currently as Senior Product Designer at Fortescue Zero, I specialise in Industrial Design and Branding.
Harnessing over 5 years of experience, I balance pragmatic solutions with disruptive creation; driven to be original, motivated by challenge and a desire to solve problems. Eager to fully understand the needs of a user or product, I endeavour to deliver well rounded, carefully considered designs.
I honed my skills in my university studies at Aston University, graduating with a First Class degree, and continue to build upon these in current role. I am proficient in using CAD software through Siemens NX and Solidworks, rendering with Keyshot and the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite. I thrive on challenges to find creative and pragmatic solutions, both independently and collaboratively across the business; including design, surfacing, engineering, marketing and workshop.
When leading a project I strive to motivate my team, ensuring a collaborative environment in which the best ideas can be generated to solve a problem. I pride myself in being up to date on the latest trends across the design world, contributing through passion, dedication and thoroughness, striving to make a difference through what I create.
I am a practical and creative person, motivated by challenges and driven to problem solve. Keen to fully explore the needs and requirements of a product or user, I work hard to deliver well rounded, carefully considered and practical products – fit for both today’s marketplace and tomorrow’s technologies.
Hard working and naturally curious as to why things are the way they are and how they might be improved, I am always keen to learn new skills and develop personally through hands on experiences. When I am given a challenge or a project, I give my 100% to execute it with professionalism and precision.

Fortescue Zero aims to become the leader of decarbonisation within the transportation industry. As Senior Product Designer, my role is to coordinate the aesthetic of our product groups, collaborating with the brand and marketing teams to uphold the brand identity internally and externally. Additionally, I provide product design development, both within the business and for it’s partners.
WILLIAMS ADVANCED ENGINEERING
I joined WAE Technologies in 2019 supporting a range of different projects both for external clients as well as internal R&D.
After successfully completing the graduate scheme, I have been promoted to Senior Product Designer where I have a key role within a wide range of projects usually encompassing user mapping, ideation, design, styling and packaging. Much of this includes close collaboration with not just internal teams but clients as well, often presenting my work in key project updates.
Additionally, I contribute to any creative work carried out within WAE, having a say on the visual direction of the overall brand and company image both internally and externally.
UNIVERSITY LIFE - ASTON UNIVERSITY, BIRMINGHAM
FINAL YEAR
I have now completed my final degree year at Aston. I used this year to work on my vehicle design skills, creating a possible next generation of Land Rover Defender focused around the original user. In my first week back I was awarded the ‘Certificate of Excellence’ in the Aston Design Week for my project on a modular flat design.
PLACEMENT YEAR - CO DESIGN STUDIO, THE NETHERLANDS
For my third year I chose to take a study placement at the Hogeschool in Utrecht. The course was supported by the university but located in a design studio in Utrecht where we worked in four-five week rotations through a range of design briefs and projects given to us by both local and international businesses. For each project the course group was split into different teams who worked on the brief to create a workable solution which was then presented to the business leaders for decision and feedback. Each project was undertaken through the 'Co Design' ideation approach, where the stakeholders of each project are consulted at every step of the way.
CO CURRICULAR
At university, I have spent a lot of time in the snow club, I am a keen skier and have attended all the events and trips since joining the university. In my third year I was voted into the snow club's committee as the secretary for media and merchandise - my first job being to design and produce the logos and advertisements for all media, banners, websites and clothing. At the end of my tenure, I received half colours for services to the Students’ Union. My team were also awarded ‘committee of the year’ at the annual awards night for our combined work.
UNIVERSITY ENGAGEMENT
Within the university I am the course representative for the design department responsible for gathering feedback from other students on my course and ensuring their input is considered as we work with the teaching staff to constantly improve university life. As a consequence of my performance in this role, in my second year I was asked to join a project to improve the interactions between students, academics and alumni at Aston; from which we plan to introduce a new way for students and the teaching staff to interact, learn and improve university life.
SUMMER PLACEMENT - BMW MINI
In the summer between my first and second year studies I secured a role working for Mini in Cowley. My role involved monitoring the quality of outgoing vehicles, feeding any issues back to the heads of manufacturing. The role often required visits to the production line to inspect work quality, fittings and parts directly. I learnt a great deal in the eight weeks I was there - insights that were really useful in my third year study placement.
BEFORE UNIVERSITY - DOLLAR, SCOTLAND
It was while I was studying at Dollar Academy near Edinburgh that I developed my interest in creativity and was encouraged to pursue and develop what has become a real passion. I strived to do my best at school, paying attention to all the feedback I received and every little detail in my work, this resulted in achieving a grade of 200/200 for Art and Design in my Advanced Higher project.
Out of school I actively participated in a range of extra-curricular activities. I completed my Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, joined the CCF and actively participated in both the REME section and the shooting team. I was the Bass Drummer for the school pipe band where I played in the A grade band for over 3 years, competing and winning many competitions. The highlight being the band winning the World Championships in 2014 - the culmination of an outstanding season of competition.
GAP YEAR
Before joining university I chose to take a gap year where I learnt to drive and raised my cocker spaniel, training him to be a gundog. I ran 5 marathons in 5 days with RBS, raising over £40,000 for Click Sargent. I also gained my track cycling accreditation at the Chris Hoy Velodrome and I spent a large amount of the year training and competing in the sprint discipline in track league events.
